To think one month ago I was discussing my work trip to London, who I was going to see and customers I was going to meet. There was this problem in China which meant my sourcing/design trip was cancelled in February but I still had not entertained the thought this would profoundly affect our lives…To think, on March 11, WHO announced, the COVID-19 outbreak was only being described as an epidemic., meaning that it has spread to many people, and many communities, at the same time.
Today, the first thing I hear in the morning radio is about COVID-19, I look at my phone and its all about the number of people testing positive and how many have died. I am told to stay home, stay away from people, wash your hands frequently… keep the kids at home …. work from home.. everyday its changing..
But then – I realise this situation cannot be controlled. There is no point in feeling low, afraid – we have to look for positives. We need to focus on our wellbeing. Mental health is fundamental in overcoming these ‘life changing’ events. The most significant thing you can do for yourself to stay ‘strong mentally’, is to exercise.
Did you know exercise releases chemicals like endorphins and serotonin that improves your mood… if you exercise regularly, it can reduce your stress and symptoms of mental health conditions like depression and anxiety. In your brain, exercise stimulates chemicals that improve your mood and the parts of the brain responsible for memory and learning.
It can also improve your sleep, which is important in so many different ways.
Exercise pumps blood to the brain, which can help you to think more clearly.
Ultimately, it makes you feel better!
Where am I going with this when this is a sports bra blog?
You may struggle finding motivation, or staying motivated for exercise. Think about ways you can make exercise part of your daily routine
We are at home – not able to access the swimming pool or the gym.. yes we can go for a run… but…. just think how much better you will feel exercising every day!
I am determined to exercise every single day.. whether its to walk the dog, 45 mins HIIT class via zoom, run or just do exercises at home.. I do this because I want to feel good!
Put your sports bra on every day to tell yourself, you mean business.
My work out is an achievement for the day. I am going to applaud myself everyday… I want to be strong for me, my family, my kids… and hell even the dog!
Lets focus on making this strange, unchartered time full of positive memories and we come out of it feeling good about ourselves.
